Style of Learning
We offer a blended style of learning so our delegates are able to benefit from a range of
activities. These include using case studies, group work, quick quizzes, interactive
sessions with trainers and training packs that are useful to keep and refresh
after the course has completed. Depending on the training needs of our delegates, a full
day may be more appropriate in order to cover all the training modules.

At the end of each session delegates will be asked to complete an evaluation to assess the impact the course has had on each individual. We also use this feedback to help us refine and improve our training.

Equality and diversity
Half Day or Full Day
Equality and Diversity affects all of us and it is important to understand how to adhere to the Equality Act 2010 and how it affects you either in everyday life or in the workplace.
This interactive course will give you an insight into which particular groups are protected under this Act and the different types of discrimination people face. The full day course will address the Public Sector Equality Duty and undertaking Equality Impact Assessments.
Understand the Equality Act 2010 – the background and legislation that led up to it
Understand the protected characteristics covered by the Equality Act 2010.
Have an awareness of the different types of discrimination prohibited by the Act.
Recognise the concept of reasonable adjustments and where this is appropriate.
Understand the aims of the Public Sector Equality Duty and the responsibilities of public authorities.

Disability Awareness - A cultural perspective
Half Day or Full Day
Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) individuals with a disability not only experience problems encountered by all disabled people, but can also face a number of other issues, including racism, health inequalities, culturally inappropriate services and language barriers.
This course identifies some of the reasons behind BME communities being under-represented in utilising local services.
Understand the need for culturally competent services, based on appropriate assessment processes.
Be aware that the term Disability could have different meanings to various cultures and faiths.
Identify barriers to accessing services and how these can be overcome.
Gain knowledge of the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Look at individual responsibilities and your contribution towards becoming more culturally competent with regards to disability.
Cultural Awareness
Half Day and Full Day
The UK is a culturally diverse place with many different communities living together and it is therefore important to have an understanding of different cultures to be able to live and work in harmony.
This course will explore the concept of cultural identity, raise awareness about different cultural practices and explore approaches to intercultural differences. The course will also increase knowledge of the diverse communities in your area and how to overcome common barriers to community engagement. In the full day course we will explore the different terms and concepts used.
Understand and distinguish between terms associated with Cultural Awareness.
Understand the local composition of their area in terms of ethnicity and religion.
Identify and explore key cultural principles and understand the impact on people’s lives.
Identify individual responsibilities and your contribution towards becoming more culturally competent.
What is culture shock, and how it can affect you at work and in everyday life - an interactive session on practical intercultural skills (full day)
End of life care - A cultural perspective
Half Day or Full Day
Initiating discussions around end of life care can be difficult for anyone, their families, friends and carers. Some communities can find it particularly difficult to initiate these discussions and access palliative care services. Cultural wishes and belief/non belief must be taken into consideration when ensuring that end of life plans are coordinated well and delivered in a dignified and respectful way.
Understand the need for culturally competent services, and plans that are based on cultural and spiritual needs.
Be aware that culture, spirituality and traditions become more important in advanced illness and end of life.
Identify barriers to accessing services and how these can be overcome.
Be more confident to initiate discussions around end of life care with individuals from different communities.
Gain knowledge of the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Hate Crime
Half Day or Full Day
Hate crime can have devastating consequences for the victim, their family, witnesses and the community as a whole. However public awareness and perception of hate crime remains low with incidents being significantly under-reported. This course will raise your awareness of hate crime and give you the knowledge and skills to identify and report hate crime and hate crime incidents.
Recognise factors/vulnerabilities which may make someone more susceptible to the violent extremist message.
Recognise early warning signs of radicalisation.
Understand the impact on specific groups and community cohesion.
Be better equipped to deal with concerns about these vulnerabilities and how to engage appropriately.
Mental Health & Cultural Awareness

Culture within Britain is constantly changing. Cultural competency is essential in improving long term mental health outcomes. Cultural competency is the ability to recognise cultural differences and address them accordingly to improve support to service users. Culture, upbringing, belief systems, and even language could play a part in the treatment of mental health issues.
This course will look at how mental illness is viewed in different communities, how well the treatment process is being understood by the service user and their families, what the person’s belief systems are, and how they are affected by treatment.

Personalisation in Adult Social Care - A Cultural Perspective
Half Day or Full Day
People are living longer and those with long term conditions and disabilities that require Adult Social Care are in need of a service that is able to meet complex and varied needs.
This course aims to provide a better understanding of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people’s experiences of Adult Social Care. We will look at barriers in accessing services and the implications for service providers. Case studies will be used to understand the extent of what people’s equality and cultural needs are, their experiences and their preference for services.
Have an understanding and be able to distinguish between terms associated with Cultural Awareness and cultural competency.
Understand the history and background to personalisation in Adult Social Care.
Discuss case studies to understand how equality is an important factor in personalisation.
Understand the barriers to accessing services.
Identify individual responsibilities and contribution towards becoming more culturally competent.
